VALUE Rubrics from AAC&U
The Association of American Colleges and Universities (AAC&U) has completed its two-year VALUE learning assessment project, and the resulting rubrics are now available on the AAC&U web page at http://www.aacu.org/value/rubrics/index.cfm.
The VALUE (Valid Assessment of Learning in Undergraduate Education) project teamed faculty with student affairs specialists and other academics in order to compile and analyze rubrics and related learning assessment materials. The goal was to arrive at a set of Essential Learning Outcomes rubrics that most closely mirrored widely-shared criteria and faculty expectations from across the entire spectrum of educational institutions.
Fifteen rubrics in categories that include inquiry and analysis, critical thinking, teamwork, and integrative reasoning were developed and tested over a two-year period. The rubric team numbered over 100 volunteers, and over 100 testing campuses, including SF State, one of the leadership campuses for the VALUE project. Currently, AAC&U is hoping to continue the VALUE initiative, and invites feedback on faculty experience in using the rubrics.
