Want to boost student success with minimal effort? TILT (Transparency in Learning & Teaching) is a simple framework that transforms how students experience courses and other interactions with educators. Research shows that making just two assignments more transparent supports learning while significantly increasing student belonging, confidence, and persistence—and enhances teaching satisfaction. In this hands-on virtual workshop, you'll:
• Discover the research behind TILT's proven impact on student success
• Practice applying the TILT framework to real assignment examples
• Transform your own assignment or interaction protocol using practical TILT strategies
• Leave with tools to immediately implement transparency in your teaching
Perfect for faculty and student support staff who want maximum impact from minimum effort. Come ready to TILT your teaching toward student success!
Open to all student-facing educators in the CSU: faculty, librarians, advisors, counselors, learning support staff, and instructional designers. Questions? Contact csuitl@calstate.edu.

Professional Learning Institute on Teaching First-Generation Students (Summer and Fall 2025)
This Institute, developed and facilitated by Dr. Rebecca Gutierrez Keeton and Dr. Maritza Lozano, faculty in the Department of Education Leadership in the College of Education at CSU Fullerton, focuses on evidence-based strategies for teaching and interacting that draw on the strengths of first-generation college students (FGCS). The institute addresses emerging issues and concerns in teaching in digitally enhanced or fully online environments, including building student-instructor relationships and engaging students in different modalities.
Apply now to join a network of faculty across the CSU who have participated in this annual summer institute since 2020.
- Participation in this opportunity involves a commitment that begins with a five-week online professional learning institute in Summer 2025 that meets from June 3 to July 1, and continues in Fall 2025, when participants reflect on their practice as they implement new strategies.
- Those who complete all activities and assignments for both the summer and fall segments will be eligible to receive a $500 professional development stipend.
- Current faculty of any rank or appointment type who have previously taught at least one course in the CSU, and plan to teach in fall 2025, may apply.
- If interest exceeds capacity, priority will be given to those positioned to become advocates for first-generation college students on their campuses.
- Applicants will be notified of acceptance on Friday, April 4.
To apply, complete this form by Friday, March 28. Contact Emily Magruder at csuitl@calstate.edu with questions.
