Overview

College students are experiencing high levels of stress, anxiety, and other mental health challenges that can affect their ability to engage, learn, and succeed. How can faculty create classrooms that support student well-being and academic success while also attending to their own well-being as educators?

This 4-week Book Circle will meet on Mondays 11-12 from Sept 21-Oct 12 on Zoom to discuss Improving Learning and Mental Health in the College Classroom by Eaton, Hunsaker and Moon.  We’ll explore how mental health affects learning and discuss the roles of motivation, resilience, community, and well-being in supporting student success. We’ll consider mental health disparities and the social and structural conditions that shape student mental health, discuss practical, evidence-based teaching strategies, and make space to reflect on faculty well-being.

Faculty from all disciplines are welcome. The book is available free of charge online through the SFSU Library. Faculty who attend all four meetings will receive a badge of completion.
